Recently, in Pictures #64

The past few weeks have been crazy busy. Perhaps the most notable of experiences lately is my admission to the Supreme Court of NSW as a lawyer - and my new job as a full-time solicitor. It all feels a bit surreal, and I'm still taking it all in. Very exciting though, to finally have years of hard-work pay off!

Revisited our old local haunt, the Post Cafe with my friend Meg. This cafe faced two suspected arson attacks within two years. I'm so glad that they're back, because they have delicious food, great waiters, and a great atmosphere.
I then headed to Surry Hills to catch up with two old work-friends, at Kawa Cafe. I'd already eaten so opted for dessert.

Our trivia team won last week! We've been stuck on fourth position for a while, so it was great to get an amazing score and come first for once! Punny team names are a must.

Spent the last weekend of February at Soundwave - this year it was spread across two days. On day one I took my dad to see Faith No More. Introducing him to the festival-must of a chip on a stick was pretty humorous. J came with me on day 2 - saw plenty of old favourites; the 13 year old inside me lost it at Papa Roach and Slipknot. Slipknot are incredibleee live and I cannot wait until they come back again. Unfortunately no headline acts did side shows this year.
Marilyn Manson is always worth watching - his voice is sounding rough these days though.

My Week in Pictures #24

MAN. It was a BIG week last week. Which, hopefully, will explain why I hardly got any posts up. There just isn't enough hours in the day!

On Monday night I met up with some of the other girls in the Sydney blogging community! K from Teacup Grunge helped with the organising, and we got everyone to meet up at Din Tai Fung at World Square for dumplings. Can I just mention here...BEST DUMPLINGS EVAH.

L-R:
Laura, from White Winters, Rachel from the The Autumn Castle, me (obv!), Kirryn and Oishee from Rioters Bloc

Unfortunately, the quality of this photo isn't that great. That's what happens when you ask randoms on the street to take a photo with a camera too complicated for them. Anyway, it was really great meeting most of the girls for the first time after stalking their blogs for the last 2 years. Like Laura mentioned on her blog, it really did feel more like old friends having dinner rather than a meet up for the first time.

On Tuesday I got a much-needed haircut, and on Wednesday my bestie took me to Blink 182 for my 21st. Life made.

Our microwave broke, so we bought a new one. Rommy is having a great time playing in the gigantic box, and I cooked my first fishy!

On Sunday we headed out to Sydney Olympic Park for Soundwave, so here are some snaps from the day:

Feeling pretty excited.

This was a bit of a pain, but MSI got to play:

The vandals were effing crazy,

Flogging Molly had to play an acoustic set on instruments that weren't theirs due to the flooding and missing trucks. Unfortunately, Garbage didn't get to play.

Hanging out. After a trip to First Aid (goddamn you lungs!), and convincing the first aid people that I did not need to go to the hospital, we took it easy listening to APC. Then we hung around for a bit waiting for Blink to start their set.

List of all the bands we saw: Mindless Self Indulgence, The Vandals, Flogging Molly, SUM 41, Cypress Hill (J saw some of their set while I was in first aid), A Perfect Circle, Blink 182, Offspring.

What's your best festival memory? It seems like every year I go to SW something gets messed up!

Anti-War

Nothing stirs up some emotion in me like a passionate, anti-war song.
I think my love for punk and metal can be attributed to this - among other things.

Because I love making lists,
My favourite anti-war songs are (in no particular order):

  • I was Only Nineteen - Redgum;
  • Khe Sanh - Cold Chisel;
  • Happy Xmas (War is Over) - John Lennon and Yoko Ono;
  • Suicide is Painless - Johnny Mandel
  • And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda - Eric Bogle
  • War - Edwin Starr (I was watching the Boston Legal ep concerning this song only a few nights ago!)
  • Disposable Heroes - Metallica
  • One - Metallica
  • Paschendale - Iron Maiden
  • Russians - Sting
  • A Farewell to Arms - Machine Head
  • Clenching the Fists of Dissent - Machine Head
  • Franco Un-American - NOFX
  • Hand that Feeds - NIN
  • Most of Anti-Flag
  • System of a Down had some excellent anti-war songs
  • As did Bad Religion
  • War Pigs - Black Sabbath
  • Born in the USA - Bruce Springsteen

And most recently, I've fallen in love with:

Hero of War - Rise Against

Maltesers and Textbooks

My uni textbooks have all arrived in the mail ... yay.
As you can see in the above photo, I'm in for a fun few months. All up they cost me just over $600.
Good thing that now that I'll be needing to spend lots of time reading I won't have any money for going out anywhere fun. -_-

Although I don't believe in Valentines Day, J is still really cute, and bought me this pack of Maltesers, because they are my favourite chocolate and they came in this cute packet that's like a gift box.
He gave them to me yesterday (because of all the drama going on at my place and working and etc haven't had a chance to just hang out). Which was really cool becasue it coincided with our 22 month anniversary.
Cute.

Isn't he a cutiehead!?

Also, my favourite song at the moment is Spanish Sahara by the Foals.
When I saw them live, this song came on, and everyone danced and sung along, and the people on drugs looked like they were in love with the world, and it was all incredibly romantic.
Check it out.
