The TMI Tag

I've been loving watching the video of this tag go around youtube, and thought I'd have a go at it because it looked fun. Funnily enough, answering the questions in written form kind of reminds me of the Myspace days.... *nostalgia*

HERE WE GO!

THE QUESTIONS

1: What are you wearing?
A pyjama shirt I got in a magazine and some red shorts I stole off a friend in year 11.

2: Ever been in love?
Yes, I've been in love twice. Once as a teenager with my first boyfriend.
And I'm incredibly lucky to be in love today with J!

3: Ever had a terrible breakup?
Yes, as a teenager with my first boyfriend. We were together for quite a while until one day out of the blue when he decided he didn't want to be together anymore. It broke my heart, I think mostly because it came completely unexpectedly. But I learnt a lot about myself, and about others through that and I did get over it pretty quickly.

4: How tall are you?
5 feet 9 and a half!

5: How much do you weigh?
I actually have no idea. I don't keep a set of scales in the house because if I do I obsess over that number way too much. And when I get weighed at the doctor's I turn around. Honestly, the number you weigh is really only an indication of your relationship with gravity. It doesn't tell you anything about muscle / fat density or the condition of your health and blah blah blah. It's better not knowing.

6: Any tattoos?
Yes, I have one on my back. I really want to get another one, but they're so expensive and every time I save up for it I end up needing to spend that money on an electricity bill or something.

7: Any piercings?
I have 10 piercings. Again, there's a few more I want, haha.

8: OTP?
No idea what this is.

9: Favourite show?
This is a hard one! I love Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Dexter, Nip/Tuck... and then there's some that will always be favourites, like Friends, Boston Legal, SVU, Gilmore Girls, Weeds, Scrubs, Metalcolaypse.

10: Favourite bands?
Metallica, Children of Bodom are probs my all time favourites.

11: Something you miss? .
I miss my Nan and Pop quite a lot.

12: Favourite song?
Nahhh, not one particular favourite. It used to be 'Hero of the Day' by Metallica. But I don't know anymore.

13: How old are you?
21!

14: Zodiac sign?
Leo

15: Quality you look for in a partner?
Someone with a good sense of humour, who is kind and thoughtful.

16: Favourite Quote?
Toss up between 'Carpe Diem Quam Minimum Credula Postero', which is the final line in a poem by Horace. It means 'Seize the day and put no trust in tomorrow'. And I also really like 'Nothing of me is original, I am the combined effort of everyone I've ever known'

17: Favourite actor?
Hmmmm. I really like Leo Di Caprio, Angelina Jolie, Emma Thompson...I like Bruce Willis and a million other people I'm sure I'm forgetting

18: Favourite color?
Red

19: Loud music or soft?
Loud

20: Where do you go when you're sad?
Nowhere in particular?

21: How long does it take you to shower?
Ages.. I wish I showered less but I take a good 20 minutes. It's like I just don't know how to be quick!

22: How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
I give myself about an hour, and that's with a lot of faffing about. I can be ready in 5 minutes

23: Ever been in a physical fight?
Yep

24: Turn on?
Hmm. I like messy hair that kinda sticks up all over the place, and slim guys with a bit of muscle definition.

25: Turn off?
Arrogance. Bad breath?

26: The reason I joined Youtube?
I'm just going to change this to why I started to blog... because I had a couple of friends doing it, and I loved reading their blogs so I decided to start writing my own.

27: Fears?
I'm scared of mice. I really, really hate the little critter monsters.

28: Last thing that made you cry?
Hmm. I cried last week when I was really sick hahaha.
I never used to be a big crier but I think as I'm getting older I'm getting more emotional. I kind of hate it.

29: Last time you said you loved someone?
This morning to J as he left for work :)

30: Meaning behind your blog Name?
It's the name of a Pixies song I really like

31: Last book you read?
Barracuda by Christos Tsiolkas. I really enjoyed it!

32: The book you're currently reading?
Game of Thrones 3.1!

33: Last show you watched?
J and I were watching 'I Shouldn't Be Alive' a couple of nights ago. It wasn't a particularly good episode.

34: Last person you talked to?
J, as he left for work this morning.

35: The relationship between you and the person you last texted?
J, my boyfriend. These questions are making me sound like I don't have any other friends hahaha.

36: Favourite food?
I'm really loving summer fruits and lots of veggies at the moment.

37: Place you want to visit?
So many places I want to visit! I want to travel to America, and Japan and Europe.

38: Last place you were?
At the law firm I'm interning at.

39: Do you have a crush?
Nope...I'm in loveeeeeeee

40: Last time you kissed someone?
This morning, to J as he left for work ahahahha.

41: Last time you were insulted?
I actually have no idea. I don't get insulted too easily.

42: Favourite flavour of sweet?
Berry flavours

43: What instruments do you play??
Sadly, none at the moment. I played guitar for like 6 years, but I haven't picked it up in a while. I really want to get back into that.

44: Favourite piece of jewellery?
I have so many sentimental pieces of jewellery that mean a lot to me, so it's hard to pick a favourite. I love the necklace J bought me for my 17th birthday, I love my Nan's rings, I love the jewellery I got for my 21st - the pearl set from my mum, a ring from my bestie and a gold bracelet from my dad.

45: Last sport you played?
Soccer, a few years ago. I hate team sports, and much prefer to do solo physical activity. I used to referee soccer because I love the game, but hated playing it. I tend to stick to pole dancing and yoga these days. And sometimes running.

46: Last song you sang?
I think Summertime Sadness by Lana Del Rey

47: Favourite chat up line?
I have never used a chat up line, and I hate it when they're used on me.
But it's always nice having a stranger come up and say how beautiful you are that they just had to stop and say hello. I think that's a nice chat up line hahahaha.

49: Last time you hung out with anyone?
Last night I hung out with J and his best mate G. We played some Settlers of Catan and had dinner. It was good, we haven't done that in a while.

Tried and Tested: Australis Lipstick Mattifying Base

Late last year I picked up the Australis Matte Me Lipstick  Mattifying Base on impulse, in Priceline's 40% off sale. I was really intrigued by what this 'mattifying base' promised, and honestly...a little bit skeptical.

So I tested it on a couple of my favourite lipsticks, to see if their shiny-ness could be taken down a notch. And, I'm glad to say my cynicism was wrong about this one!
The "matte me" base creates an almost-waxy feeling. It's quite thick, but lipstick slides straight over. The colour is dulled slightly as the sheen disappears and you're left with a beautiful matte version!

Introducing, the contestants:

First up: another one of Australis' lip products; their Colour Inject Mineral Lipstick in Flamenco

Next up; MUA lipstick in shade 13:

Then we have the not-so great performer....the Revlon Lip Butter in Berry Smoothie;

And lastly, L'oreal Infallible Lipstick in Eternal Rose:

I really love the finish the matte base gives off.
It really didn't work much at all on the Revlon Lip Butter and I feel that's probably due to how high the moisture content in that product is. In some of the swatches the colour comes off a bit patchy, but that's easily overcome by applying with a bit more effort and care than I did.

At first the sensation of it on your lips needs a bit of getting used to, it's a bit thick but very creamy. It's not drying in the slightest and lasts for hours. I think it tends to increase the longevity of the lip colour. I actually have no idea how it works? Magic?

Overall, this is a really interesting product and I'm really glad it did work. I feel like I have so many more options now when it comes to my lip colours!

Have you tried this? Which contestant do you think was the winner?

Her Fashion Box: January

I loveee receiving a new parcel in the  mail, and I have really begun to look forward to HFB each month. I just love the photo on the front page of the mini magazine included.

Inside the box! This month was a bit better than last month's, but there were still a few items I was a bit unhappy with. I guess you can't win them all, hey?

The first item I noticed in the box was this gorgeous scarf. It's incredibly soft, so feels very lush. HFB described the scarves as vibrant, but I really disagree with that. To me, vibrant means colourful and this one is a bit monochromatic... I still love the print, but I feel you can be 'classic' and still have colour in your life! I loved the look of the scarves the other boxes received and feel the 'classic' scarf is a bit winter-y.

This was the necklace included in the classic box. I think the detailing and the colours of this is really pretty, but again I'm not a fan of the perspex. I guess that's the thing with fashion though...sometimes what's on trend isn't always what's to your taste. I might still wear this. I don't hate it, I just don't love it.

There was a notebook in the box, a collaboration with Cantik Swimwear. I love a good notebook and this one is really pretty; with gilded edges and plain paper inside.

A couple of beauty goodies: A pink salt scrub from Babe. This is supposed to stimulate circulation, relax the body, lower blood pressure, soothe sore muscles, and is a generous 30g sample size. I love body scrubs, and I'm sure I'll enjoy using this one!

I also received an Urban Rituelle Lip Balm in Passionfruit. The packaging on this is really cute, but unfortunately isn't made very well and the lid slides right off. This will undoubtedly be one for the desk, as there is no way it would survive a handbag. Apart from that, I really like it. It's made from all natural ingredients (always a win!) with sunscreen protection and is really hydrating.

I also got an Ulta 3 lipstick in Cherry Wine. I'm guessing this was my bonus gift for filling out the survey. Kind of annoying though, because I received this exact product a few months ago which makes me think the 'bonus gift' is just an excuse to get rid of left-over products. I'm all for recycling and using up stuff, but it sucks receiving the exact same product you've already gotten.

I think this is an awesome inclusion; a pocket manicure kit. Not really much to say on it. It's valued at $7.95 but the quality of the tools is pretty good. I think the little box it comes in is really cute too.

This little coin purse is quite cute. I have so much shrapnel in my wallet distorting it's shape that I will probably get a lot of use out of this.

A couple more sachets of 'boosters' to add to your smoothies. I still haven't used mine from last month, but I like the idea of them and I am keen to try them out.

Some sachets of Jbronze, Jen Hawkins' tanning range. The HFB booklet said we will receive two 5ml samples of the face flawless tan, and one 5ml sample of the shimmer instant illuminiser, but as you can see, for me it was the other way around! I'm not really into tanning so will pass that sachet onto someone else who will use it but I'm interested to try the shimmer.

There was also a 45g sample of a muesliforme mix...this company sounds awesome; they let you design your own muesli mix and then they send it to your door each month. I love muesli, but the ones at the supermarket that are packed with sultanas disgust me, so I think I might try out this mix (a HFB custom mix) and then give the brand a go!

OOTD: Red Dress

I picked this dress up off the sale racks at Sportsgirl about six months ago. My body is long, so I struggle to find cinched dresses that sit 'right' on me...they should sit around your waist, but on me they always sit a little closer to my hips. This dress isn't quite perfect in that regard (although it does come close!), but the side panelling definitely helps make it more flattering.

I love the length of it, and the way it can easily look so different depending on what shoes I pair it with. We were doing a lot of walking this day, so I chose to wear combat boots.

I love the neckline, and the way my necklace sits on it...

I also love that up close you can see the intricate flower detaling in the fabric, making it more than just a standard red dress.

Quilted Doc Martens....these are probably my favourite shoes at the moment. Bit of a shame they're slightly uncomfortable in the heat...

New to My Wardrobe...

Tomorrow I start my 20-day internship at a law firm. I'm really excited for this; I'm excited to be learning a more practical component to my degree, and getting to experience an actual law firm. I have worked in a law firm before, but this will be different because I should actually be involved in the cases, and working with the solicitors. It is also highly likely that I'll get to attend court which is fun!

The only thing is that it's been a while since I've had to wear corporate clothing, and the items I did own are a little worse for wear, or don't quite fir me anymore. So I needed to go out and buy some clothes. I've been on the hunt for the past month or so, especially with all the post-Xmas sales. But, finding something within my price range was proving to be difficult, even with the sales.
So I turned to twitter, and asked where some cheap, nice workwear could be found. ZARA and Target were by far the most popular answers I got and so I headed out to Target to check out their new 'Modernista collection'. Most of the collection is quite affordable, and I really did love most of it.

I picked up these two dresses to start with, and will probably go back and get some new blouses as well;

This dress was a bit hard to photograph, but I love the neckline with its cute triangle cut-out, and the overall pattern.

Next up is this simple, black dress; always a staple:

This one is a simple V-neck, but I love that it's not a solid black.

Where's your favourite place to find work clothing?
Any tips or advice from those of you who have had to do internships?

BREAKING!! NARS: Narsissist Palette

Image taken from here
The NARS narsissist palette has been released in the UK, retailing for 55GBP.
Featuring 15 eyeshadows, this palette looks gorgeous!

I have no doubt that over the next few days reviews and swatches will start to come in...although without even looking at them I kind of already want this palette.

No news yet when and if it will be released in Australia. Here's hoping!

What's in my bag?

I think that one of the nice things about getting a new bag is re-visiting and re-thinking about what you keep with you every day.

I got this bag for Christmas, and I'm so, so happy with it. It's got lots of little compartments inside, a section for your laptop, and it includes a key chain (which is such an awesome feature!), and it has a nice big pocket on the front. I love the structured look of the bag, and I love that although the straps are quite long there's also the option of using the shoulder strap.

Although the bag is quite big and roomy, I do try to limit what I carry with me on a day to day basis...

The essentials.

I don't leave the house without a water bottle, and I love this one from Bobble. It has an in-built charcoal filter to filter the water as you drink, but I just really love the size. The best thing is you can change the filter, which adds more life to the bottle as you don't get year-old germs on the mouthpiece (gross!)

I've also tried to start being more aware of the money I'm spending, so I carry this little Budget Book with me and write down all my expenses. It seems to be working so far.

I picked up a small notebook to stash in my bag without weighing it down - it's perfect for jotting down blog ideas and thoughts on the go without takign up too much space. It is a paperback, so it will probably eventually get trashed, but it cost me $2 so I'm hardly complaining.

Medical-wise, I carry my enzyme tablets with me, for when I feel like eating something I'm not supposed to - this helps ease my IBS symptoms (TMI?), and I carry my ventolin with me, always.

My Kobo reader I got for Christmas lives in the front pocket of the bag. I still need to buy a case for it, but for the moment I love that it has it's own little home where it will stay safe.

Phone and wallet are standard bag-essentials, I think. Check out this post to see what's in my wallet.

I also carry my day planner with me (check out this post for more about that) to help me keep organised and keep track of what I'm supposed to be doing, and when.
I picked up a point and shoot camera in the boxing day sales, so I keep that in my bag as well. It's nice to be able to have a decent camera with me at all times to take photos of things that inspire me.

I keep all my beauty bits and pieces together in this medium sized, rose-gold Mimco pouch.
I will usually switch bits and pieces in and out of here depending on what I'm wearing on my face that day, but the general contents are as follows;

I usually keep the Australis Fresh and Flawless pressed powder (Review) Burt's Bees Lifeguard's Choice  (Review) and the Nivea Essential Care. I keep some minty breath spray for freshening up between meals on the go.
I usually only keep one 'scented item' with me, but I clearly hadn't cleaned out my pouch when I photographed this. I have two travalo's and fill them with one of my perfumes for touch ups when I'm out. I also have a couple of samples; the ones in the photo are DKNY Be Delicious and Katy Perry Killer Queen.
I also always carry whatever lip product I'm wearing with me. (Again I hadn't cleaned it out), but I have the Bourjois Colour Boost Glossy Lipstick
I also have a mirrored lipstick holder that I got from my Aunt for my 21st, and I love this for storing lippies so they don't break in my bag.

I generally try to keep it minimal, but now that I've written it out, it seems a bit excessive.
What do you carry around with you? How do I measure up compared to you?
