October Her Fashion Box: West Coast

It was a long wait this past month for the latest box from HFB. I received an email on the 10th saying all boxes had been shipped, and the shipping notification arrived promptly in my inbox. And then ... nothing. Usually, deliveries are overnight but I gad exams, and was busy, and kind of forgot about it.
As the end of the month snuck up on me, I realised it hadn't arrived and chased it up with HFB. They chased it up with the shipping company, who had lost my order!
The HFB team quickly came to the rescue though, and prepared my order to go out the next day, with a few extra goodies inside to make up for the inconvenience.

October's theme is 'West Coast', embracing minimalism and gypsy-inspired patterns.

The 'Noir bag' (RRP $29.95) is a bit different to what I would normally go for in accessories. I think the size is perfect, but I would normally probably walk past a bag shaped like this if I saw it in the stores. This style is very on-trend at the moment, and the whole reason I signed up to this box was to challenge my sartorial choices. I definitely have some prints in my wardrobe that would work with this style. I think the key here is styling it the way that HFB have in their magazine - minimalist colours, a touch of print and having the bag as a statement. I really love the gold chain, and the clasp at the front. I also love that despite it being small, it would definitely fit more than a phone and lipgloss in it - yay for practicality!

The other fashion piece in this box is inspired by silk scarves, and the print in the classic box is very Hermes-esque. The 'Carriage Scarf is really bold, and I do really like it. Again, there's styling inspiration contained in the mini magazine for those of us who aren't great with scarves, that highlight the versatility of these pieces. Wrapped around your head, your bag, your wrist...they add colour and texture to your outfit. At a RRP of $14.95, this particular scarf is obviously not made out of silk, and was a bit static-y when I took it out of the plastic it came on. Nevertheless, it seems to be pretty good quality, and at that price point you really can't complain.

Bit spoiled for choice with beauty products in this month's box...

HFB have come out with their own version of the beauty blender! I haven't tried the original, but am definitely keen to give this blending sponge (RRP $9.95) a go. HFB have also come out with their own eyelash curler (RRP $14.95). I got a bright green one (yay!) and am pretty impressed with it. It's a pretty sturdy construction, and quite rounded. I struggle with eyelash curlers, thanks to my deep-set eyes and I'm glad to report I experienced no pinching with this one!

We also received an eyeliner from Coral Colours (RRP $5.95). I've only tried this brand once, about 10 years ago so it was a surprise seeing it again! This black eyeliner is super pigmented black, and applies easily with no dragging. It also smudges easily, which is great if you're going for a smokey look - not so great if you're going for clean and crisp. It contains Vitamin E and Aloe Vera, which is a nice touch.

The last beauty product is a baked trio of mineral eyeshadows from Omshe Aromatherapy (RRP $14.95). I haven't heard of this brand before. These colours look really pretty, although a little bit strange to have these particular three paired together.

Overall, I'm really happy with the October box - I love both the fashion items, and am interested in trying out all the beauty products.

Review: July Her Fashion Box

I'm really excited to share this post with you today because I loved, loved, loved the July HFB! I was happy with every single product, which is something that hasn't happened in a while.

The two main fashion items in this box were the infinity scarf, and a watch.
HFB values the infinity scarf at $34.99, and for once I can agree with that valuation. I got the red one (yay my favourite colour!), and it is so soft, warm and so nicely knitted that I would pay the RRP for it. It also helps that I've been wanting an infinity scarf for ages but haven't been able to really find one that I like.

The watch we received in this month's box is valued at $29.99. I really love the design of it - the watch face hardware is rose gold, with black detailing. I think it looks kind of edgy while still being 'classic'. The wrist strap is a rubber material, which isn't my favourite but that keeps it at a low price point, and it isn't a feature I dislike enough to stop me liking the watch as a whole. I have worn this almost every day since I got it in my box (convenient also that my normal watch broke right before...I still need to get that fixed)

We received a sample card of the 'Kisses, Darling' card from French Navy - this normally comes in a pack of 10 for $49.95. The card is a thick card stock, with 'xoxo' printed in red. It's always good to have extra stationery lying around, and this is a cute design that can be used for almost anything. Check out the French Navy website here.

I can't wait to try out the Appelles Apothecary Rosemary Body Bar (valued at $5.95). It is supposed to be a low irritant bar that won't dry your skin out, and it smells really beautiful through the packaging. Appelles is an Aussie brand that uses Aussie ingredients and certified oils, which is awesome. You can check out their website here.

We got a couple of lip products this month: a coconut lip balm from CoconutRevolution, which is valued at $7.95. I got the cherry flavour, which is surprisingly nice. It smells a bit like raspberry lollies, rather than cherry - I'm just so glad it doesn't stink of that fake cherry flavour. You can check their site out here. We also received a lip crayon from Ulta3, valued at $4.95 - I received the colour 'pretty nude'. Nudes are a difficult colour to get right, and I would have much preferred to receive a red (which is still 'classic').

There was also a 14mL sample of Revitanail Nail Strengthener in our box. I've heard so many good things about this product, that I can't wait to see how it shapes up compared to the nail strengtheners I already use. A full size of 30mL is valued at $29.95, so this was a pretty generous sample size, which I love.

Overall - I really don't have a single negative thing to say about the July Her Fashion Box. It seems like they've really been listening to the complaints over the past few months and have picked up their game. AND this box arrived on time! Hurrah! I cannot wait to see what the August box has to offer - hopefully HFB can keep up the high standards.

Organisation Tips: Scarves

I've tried SO MANY different ways of organising my scarves... boxes, drawers, tied to a railing, hanging off the back of my door. None of them have stacked up. When looking to organise my scarves, I wanted something that would allow me to see what I have, and easily access it. I also wanted something that made it really easy to put them away when I'm done with them.

Enter this pants hanger I picked up from k-mart! This has five metal rungs, which means it has plenty of storage for my scarves, and it allows me to see them all at one glance.

Because it lies pretty much flat, it also takes up virtually no space in my wardrobe either, which is a bonus!

The metal rungs also unhook and swing out, making it super, duper easier to just slip the scarf off the rung if I don't want to untie it. How genius is that!!

How do you store your scarves and winter accessories?
