My Week in Pictures #21

This week was actually a lot of fun! Little old homebody me got out of the house quite a bit!
Tuesday was really hot. Really hot. Obviously if you live here, you know that. But if you're not from Oz here's a radar snapshot of the average temperature this week:

Source
I think it got up to 42 degrees in Sydney and it was still 38 degrees at 9pm at night as we were leaving a restaurant in Newtown for Brad's 21st. When it's that hot you literally feel like you do when you open the oven door.
Luckily in Sydney we only had one bad day, but pretty much the rest of the country is literally on fire. I hope if you live near any of the bushfires that you're staying safe!

Pole resumed back this week - here's a snapshot of what I'm reading at the moment. I'm really loving this book - much better than some other Stephen King novels I read as a teenager. Have you seen the film?

J and I headed out to our favourite cafe - the Post Cafe - for breakfast. I had the (edible!) fruit basket with ice-cream and J had the pancakes.

Plenty of coffee was consumed.

On Friday night we headed out to the Night Races. We both had a lot more fun than we thought we would, placing $5 bets on the best looking horses. We had a horse place, and went to go collect our $6 winnings from the bookie - and got an extra $11 back! Talk about winning! Ka-ching!

Spent some time reading and drinking coffee while waiting for J to finish up with the grocery shopping on Saturday morning...

And I spent Saturday night at Brad's for his 21st!
How excellent do my friends look?

What did you get up to this week? Anyone reading any good books at the moment - I'm almost finished this one! How have you been dealing with the heat?

Haircare Series Part Six: Cleaning Your Brushes!

Hands up who regularly washes their hair brush?
I'm betting nowhere near as many people would have said 'yes' to that than if I'd asked about how many of you wash your make-up brushes!

It does seem like common sense, but I'm willing to bet that it's not something commonly thought about. So I'm here to remind you that not washing your hairbrushes is GROSS.
Dead hair falls out, oil and grease and product can build up and then every time you brush your hair you're just putting that gunk straight back into your nicely cleaned hair.

So, here's my super quick method to deep cleanse your brushes:

So this is what we're working with. The first thing to do is obviously to get rid of that gross build-up of hair. I usually do this every time I brush my hair - but sometimes I'm lazy and only do it once a week.

I've found the best and easiest way to get all the hair out is with a bobby pin! Just insert it at the base of the hairbrush bristles and lift up. This will get the bulk of it off. Then just run the bobby pin through the bristles a few times and that will dig out the more stubborn hairs.

Nice and clean!! There still may be a build-up of dirt and sweat and other gross things though, so we're going to give it a quick scrub with some antibacterial soap. I just use regular old hand soap. If you have a hairbrush with more delicate bristles then maybe use something more gentle - but mine are plastic so meh.

I just squirt some directly onto the brush head and then run some water and scrub the bristles with an old toothbrush.
To dry, just leave face down on an absorbent paper towel!

Do you have any tips for cleaning hair brushes?

Get ready with me!

Today I posted my first 'getting ready with me' video - a small insight into what I do to get ready in the morning before work.

I spent most of today editing the video and fighting with the voiceover timing, stopping only to do the dishes and fit in some Assassin's Creed. I was so pleased with it when I finished I uploaded it immediately to youtube only to find out I'd saved it in the wrong format, so it was lesser quality than I wanted. All good, right? I'll just re-save it.
Oh...

Wait...

What is this error message? What do you mean you have to restart the program? Okay I can do that.
So the program opens back up to a completely blank slate. I re-open the file... to exactly where I was at 9am this morning with it. All my hard work gone.

So I'm sorry, this is in not-so-great quality but that's better than not being there at all.
Let this be a lesson to you all to save your work regularly (and check it's in the right format when you do!)

Do computers hate you too? Or is it just me afflicted with this curse?

Nails of the Week

Today I did some experimenting with the nail stamper J got me for Christmas.
I tried out the star pattern and I think it turned out pretty well!

My middle finger got a bit smudged, but overall I think it looks pretty good!

I absolutely adore this gold colour by Revlon - it has a really beautiful shimmer to it, without glittery junks so it's easy to remove. It's really easy to apply, and only takes one coat to achieve full opacity.

Revlon - Gold Coin (925)
O.P.I - Black Onyx

What's your favourite nail pattern?
