My Week in Pictures #22

I was a bit absent this week. Not to make excuses, but the boyfriend had the week off work so we spent some time hanging out together, which was really lovely.

Here's what I got up to this week:

Bought some hot rollers for my hair with the xmas money from J's parents, and have been having a TONNE of fun playing with them. (Thanks B&D if you're reading!!) Also started and finished the entire 'Dead Like Me' TV series. I love me some dark comedy.

Went for a walk to get some iced coffee. Nom.

Catching up on some journalling.

J and I went rock climbing! Seriously, this was so much fun and I don't know why we have never been before. After you get over the initial trust issues, it's so easy to power on up to the top. We were both worn out after about an hour, and apparently that's because we don't use our legs enough.

Skyped with my mummy. Who took a photo of the affair on her phone instead of just screenshotting it like I did. What a n00b (an insult she takes way too personally...)

J and  I also tried out the burgers at Grill'd. This place is well worth the hype, let me tell you. I also had a Rekordelig slushie - so worth the $8 I paid for it.

Spent Australia Day at a barbeque with the extended family. Met my brand new baby cousin (she's now 7 months old...but still brand new for me!) Shirley (on the right). She's so well behaved - very alert and playful.   And I got to play with my other younger cousins. On the left we have Spencer. Such a cutie! I wish I could see these guys more often.

In other exciting news - I got a promotion this week! Had my job interview on Tuesday and found out on the same day that they were willing to train me up for the position. It's still technically not official until I sign my contract in 6 weeks but I'm so, so excited.

What are you grateful for this week?

My Week in Pictures #21

This week was actually a lot of fun! Little old homebody me got out of the house quite a bit!
Tuesday was really hot. Really hot. Obviously if you live here, you know that. But if you're not from Oz here's a radar snapshot of the average temperature this week:

Source
I think it got up to 42 degrees in Sydney and it was still 38 degrees at 9pm at night as we were leaving a restaurant in Newtown for Brad's 21st. When it's that hot you literally feel like you do when you open the oven door.
Luckily in Sydney we only had one bad day, but pretty much the rest of the country is literally on fire. I hope if you live near any of the bushfires that you're staying safe!

Pole resumed back this week - here's a snapshot of what I'm reading at the moment. I'm really loving this book - much better than some other Stephen King novels I read as a teenager. Have you seen the film?

J and I headed out to our favourite cafe - the Post Cafe - for breakfast. I had the (edible!) fruit basket with ice-cream and J had the pancakes.

Plenty of coffee was consumed.

On Friday night we headed out to the Night Races. We both had a lot more fun than we thought we would, placing $5 bets on the best looking horses. We had a horse place, and went to go collect our $6 winnings from the bookie - and got an extra $11 back! Talk about winning! Ka-ching!

Spent some time reading and drinking coffee while waiting for J to finish up with the grocery shopping on Saturday morning...

And I spent Saturday night at Brad's for his 21st!
How excellent do my friends look?

What did you get up to this week? Anyone reading any good books at the moment - I'm almost finished this one! How have you been dealing with the heat?

My Week in Pictures #18

The best thing about last week was that I got to fly up to Queensland and see my Mum!

We all went and watched the carols. On the left is my Mum and R, and my little bro on the right. What a cheeky smile!

I was also excited to catch up with Snookie girl! I've missed her crazyness. She is definitely enjoying lounging around in the grass. Her favourite thing to do these days is stalk leaves.

Big yawn! It's a hard life being a cat!

Before I left, I wrapped up some Christmas presents. How cute is the ribbon? I cut out some of the white "Happy Christmas" ribbon and have been using it in my hair, haha.

Ever since Kirryn got me hooked on Starbucks' Peppermint Mocha Frappucinos, I've been trying to replicate the peppermint chocolate at home. J perfected the recipe for me - so stay tuned because it will be up later this week!

I flew back home yesterday morning. I love looking at the clouds when flying above them. Unfortunately the flight back was not that comfortable - the woman in front of me put her seat down (why do people do this on 1 hour flights?) My legs are long and had nowhere to go so they were digging into her seat. She was pretty loudly complaining to whoever she was sitting next to. Not my fault! Put your damn seat up! I swear they've made the seat room smaller as well.

Got back in time for the last pole lesson of the year. I managed to accomplish this little bugger this week:

This one's called a Cupid and has eluded me for the last 3 months. But I finally got it! (It's an owwie move, which explains the facial expression - mixture of pain and pleasure)

What did you accomplished this week? Tell me some of your worst (or best!) flight stories!

My Week...

New accomplishments!

Fucking over this rain.
Got caught in torrential rain on Tuesday morning. My poor leather jacket is now so tough, needs some serious conditioning.
Also, waiting at freezing cold train stations is never fun.

Fucking sick of studying
Uni is kicking my ass at the moment.

Remind me again why I thought law school was a good idea?

FUCK THAT.

Back to Uni!

The uni semester resumed last week! The only classes I had on were for Mandarin, however as they are spread across 3 days I ended up heading down to the 'Gong 2/3 days anyway.

Why only 2/3, I hear you ask?
Well, if you're in Aussie-land, you'd be well aware (maybe?) of the floods and the torrential rain that NSW has been subject to over the past few days months.
If you're an overseas reader let me quickly explain this: my whole life, all I have known, is drought. At one point it was so severe that the government issued people with little sand timers for their showers, so as to save water. The whole country (I think?) were under water-saving regulations. No washing cars, buildings or playing under the hose in Summer. (boo!)

Our Summer's get quite hot. Last year, we had a record heat wave - 6 consecutive days above 35 degrees Celsius. One day the temps reached as high as 42 degrees Celsius, and nights were as hot as 26 degrees Celsius.
This Summer, in comparison has been quite shitty. There's been lots of rain, and lots of low temps.

Anyway, basically, our dams have reached capacity, and had to be spilled. Something I never thought was possible. So many areas are flooding, and thousands of people have had to be evacuated.

Last Wednesday, I woke up to pretty torrential downpour. The radio warned of flooding in the Illawarra region. When this happens, usually it means the trains are unable to run (either due to areas of track being flooded, or signal failure), and so either you're stranded or they might have busses.
I decided not to risk it, and stayed home instead. Which was a good decision, because I desperately had to clean my messy room:

I am actually ashamed to admit those above photos are of my bedroom. Those are all clean clothes, btw. Just too lazy to put them away apparently.

Anywayyyy I spent Wednesday cleaning up and organising:

I love fresh paper!

Bought me some textbooks!
I only spent about $200 this semester, which is a third of what I usually spend.
I'm totally chuffed about it.

So I spent (some of) the money I saved on other books:

I am determined to get D's in everything this semester.
And I'm determined to finish the year actually being able to understand some Mandarin.

Last week was a pretty easy intro back. I'm glad I only had the one class on as it gave me plenty of opportunities to catch up on Coffee and goss:

And today, I arrive home to find this beauty in the mail:

Love your timing, Vogue.

Smitten with Holidays!

I am THOROUGHLY enjoying finally being on holidays!

Here's some snapshots of what I've been up to:

Drinking lots of coffee...

...and lots of tea.

Chasing away spideys.
This huntsman was only little. Later that night, my sister and I found one that was sooooo much bigger chilling out on the door frame that leads into my kitchen.
I was too scared to approach him and ask for a photo

I'm not much of a summer person, so I'm kinda enoying all the cosy nights inside, listening to the rain pounding on my roof.

I've also enjoyed breaky with J at the Post Cafe:

 Crazy 'fruit basket'.
I love me some fresh fruit. Drizzled in honey ... even better!!
J had the 'post brekkie'.

But what I've enjoyed even more than stuffing myself with food is being able to use my lappy just for reading blogs, curling up with a good book and doing some logic puzzles.

I have started doing some research for our trip next year! YAY!
And finally have gotten around to starting this book.
Only a million years after all the hype.

Although at the moment I'm also reading:
  • Dracula - Bram Stoker
  • The Bronze Horseman - Paulina Simmons
  • Live Wire - Harlan Coben
  • Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald
  • Animal Farm - George Orwell
  • Johnny Got His Gun - Dalton Trumbo
I know right, crazy!
This is why it takes me so goddamn long to finish any books. I just keep starting new ones!
