My Week in Pictures #44; the Theme Park Edition (part 1)

Last week J and I jet-setted off to Queensland for a mini-holiday. We stayed with my mum, who lives about an hour north of Brisbane. It was so great being able to see her after months and months, and check out her new place. We spent two days at Warner Bros Movie World and at Dreamworld, which was the basis of our little getaway.

We started off on Tuesday at Movie World. I last was at Movie World over 10 years ago, and it's a lot more DC-focussed than I remember. I have to say though, I totally commend them on their theme-ing of the park, because they have done an awesome job with that.

The Superman Escape rollercoaster, and the Arkham Asylum coaster (previously known as the Lethal Weapon) were easily the best in the park. Superman Escape had the longest wait time of them all, but even so it was only about 20 minutes. The Superman Escape accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in under 2 seconds which is just so, so much fun. 

I think the funnest rollercoaster of all of them was the Arkham Asylum - it has 5 inversions, reaches speeds of 88km/h with an experience of 4Gs. The track is above you, and your suspended so your feet dangle. This ride is so intense, and I think was my favourite out of all of the ones we experienced. 

The Batwing Spaceshot was a lot of fun - you basically shoot up 61m, experiencing a force of 4Gs while travelling 64km/h. You can see a lot of the park on the ride which is nice, for the views. 

The Green Lantern coaster was pretty fun - not quite as intense as Arkham; if you're after a little thrill but still a bit of a 'fraidy-cat, this would be a great ride for you. The ride reaches speeds of 66km/h, with an experience of 3.5Gs. That being said, I was surprised to learn it does actually feature the steepest drop in the Southern Hemisphere and the second steepest in the world.

The last time I went to Movie World, the Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster had just been built, and the lines were so long that there was over an hour and a half wait to get in. This time, there was no such line. Unfortunately, the ride was a bit of a disappointment. Towards the end of the coaster part, there was a lot of stop-starting which kind of ruined the experience. The first time we stopped was at the end of the last drop, and I honestly thought the ride had broken and we got stuck. 

Movie World has fun little shows on, which is good to break up the day. The Batman one was pretty good, and easily drew the biggest crowd. Unfortunately the Wild West show got cancelled (but not before we were all standing in the sun for 20 minutes waiting for it to start). The Scooby Doo show was also funny and lighthearted; there were a lot of children at that show.

Movie World is a great theme park; it has an entire Looney Tunes section with rides just for little ones, so it would be perfect for all ages.

My Week in Pictures #43

Sorry this one is a day late

 

J built a new planter box for the backyard. We now have plenty of veggies growing away which is exciting. Rommy is back to his back-sitting ways.

My little brother stayed with us on Friday night. We played some Settlers of Catan, with the expansion pack he got me for Christmas. 

 

New sunnies arrived in the mail. 

Saw Hunger Games 2 at the IMAX. The IMAX is incredible; it's amazing seeing a film that huge and it's a lot easier to immerse yourself in it. The 2nd movie was a lot better than the first, and I really, really enjoyed it. 

 

Had my first pole class for the year, and finally managed to do the "Reverse Ayesha" (on the left). It took me about a year to get this one, due to limited shoulder flexibility from an old injury. Just goes to show what dedication and hard work can do!

Tried out the 'forearm grip Ayesha' as well for the first time. Not bad for a first timer, but still needs some work.

Had a Mexican themed night in Surry Hills with my mate Brad. Headed out to Tio's and then to El Loco. We went for a walk to Sydney Festival to find the jumping castle Stonehenge, but we were deterred by the massive line. We then decided to give Baxter's Inn a try, but again, the 25 minute line made us turn away. 

I leave my yoga mat out for less than 30 seconds and the cat makes himself at home on it. Does anyone else's cat do this? 

On Saturday, J and I went on an 'extreme boat ride' in Sydney Harbour. It was pretty fun, with the boat reaching high speeds. We went out past the Sydney Heads, around to The Gap, and past Bondi Beach.

It really was such a nice day, and even though we both applied a heap of sunscreen, we got patchy sunburn which sucked.

Sheer dress and shimmer-y eyes

On Wednesday night, J and I headed out to Hoyts Chatswood to go see Ted.

On a side note - $15.50 for a student ticket!? Movies are WAY too expensive these days.
The movie was okay, had some memorable funny parts but I think I was expecting it to be a lot funnier than it was. It was sort of Rom-Com, which isn't really what I thought I was getting myself in for.
So general verdict - it was okay, nothing amazing. I kinda would have preferred to watch Battyman.

ANYWAY

Decided to get a little dressed up for the occasion. Money's really tight around here these days, so I haven't bought anything new for the Winter season - fashion-wise. This really depresses me as winter is my FAVOURITE fashion season. But them's the breaks! So instead I've been shopping in my wardrobe, and decided to wear this sheer red dress:

I bought it SO long ago, and posted about it here.

Yep, that's almost a year and a half I've had it with no wear. But I wore it the other day, so that's okay. And I have fallen in love with it, and it will be coming out much more frequently. 

I added a belt, and tied it in a knot around my waist, 

And I think the collar detailing is just TOO cute!

Belated Post: The Dictator Premiere Screening

So thanks to J's work, we got to see The Dictator at its premiere screening!

J was helping to manage the guest list, so for an hour or two before the film started, I sat in the Events Cinema cafe lounge thing and studied...

Funniest thing was, I was sitting there on my lonesome, and this really sweet guy came up to me and said  "Hey, sorry to bother you, I just walked past you to go to the bathroom, and I couldn't not come up and say hello, you looked so cute here studying by yourself".
hahaha, I told him J was just outside, and I was waiting for him and he said "Yeah, I thought you'd be with someone...but you never know right!?" Props to him for optimism and a "go get 'em" attitude.

Anyway, while we were waiting for the screening to start, who should show up but...

Yep. That's Sacha Baron Cohen in the middle there, with his "bodyguards" on either side.

Because J was working, we ended up getting seats right at the back of the cinema, and sadly, we didn't even get to sit together. We were pretty far away from the front, and because my phone has no zoom, each picture I got of SBC was pretty unidentifiable.

He gave a speech before the movie, whilst staying completely in character. Regardless of whether you like his work or not, not many actors can do that, and I think that in itself is commendable.

I really enjoyed the movie - I'm not going to do a review of it, but I did laugh, and I did like it. If you are easily offended though, then probably stay away from it. Although what I did love was that everyone is fair game in comedy.

Weekends and X-Men

Last night J took me to see X-Men!
It was a pretty good movie, and I really enjoyed it considering I hadn't watched any of the other X-Mens. J said I missed a lot of the "in jokes" but I didn't know that I was missing them so it was all good. It's good when you understand a movie without needing to know the background to it all. Although this is a prequel, so that probably helped.

 

Overall it was pretty entertaining, which is just what you want from a movie. There were a few continuity errors we picked up on while we were watching it - I always find it so amusing when I spot them. 

J worked Saturday, and I refereed on Sunday - so unfortunately we hardly got much of a weekend together at all.
Holidays aren't much fun when you're pretty much working through them :(

Looking Up

After such an awful past couple of days, I am glad to report that the worst of it seems to be over.

I was quite upset yesterday after everything that had happened, and all the stress and drama for everyone involved, and I called J up and asked him to please come over and look after me, which he did in a heartbeat. It's amazing, when you have someone who will drop everything and run over just to be with you.
I wasn't really in the mood for talking, so he suggested we go watch a movie.
As it was late, there weren't even that many movies showing, and we settled for the 9pm viewing of Faster, with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and Billy Bob Thornton.

The casting alone should have been indicative of how awful this movie was going to be.
There was no saving points, it was just awful. I can't even critique it properly, it was basically a shitty version of Kill Bill. Characters were left undeveloped, some characters were randomly introduced for 5 minutes without proper explanation, and even the cinematography wasn't that great. 
I urge you, steer clear of this one. 

So I got home last night and had a letter on my bed from my roomie, and we had a chat, and it seems that for the moment, things are sorted out, or at least on their way to being sorted out.
Which is a huge relief.

Then J and I spent the next hour or two in bed, watching season 4 of Dexter while eating home-made nachos. yum.

I'm back to work today, and during some of the quiet moments, did have a quick browse at some of my regular blogs, and was ECSTATIC to learn that I'd won  a Whisk and Pin pancake mix pack inc syrup from Blithely Unaware!!

This is the greatest thing to happen in a while. I love whisk and pin, and I love pancakes, and I love winning things.
And, I NEVER win things, which is why this prize is so amazing! Yay!!
